About FOMO Sapiens

FOMO Sapiens is a top business podcast created and hosted by Patrick J. McGinnis. The podcast uncovers how entrepreneurial leaders in business, politics, and culture make personal and professional decisions in a world of overwhelming choice.

About Patrick J. McGinnis

Dubbed a “pop entrepreneur” by New York magazine, I’m a venture capitalist who coined the term FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and its lesser-known twin, FOBO (Fear of a Better Option), in a 2004 article at Harvard Business School. FOMO has since been added to the dictionary, and FOBO was the subject of my TED Talk “How to Make Faster Decisions.” The New York Times, Le Monde, FT, and El País have covered my work on FOMO, FOBO, and decision-making.

A graduate of Georgetown University and Harvard Business School, I’ve visited more than 115 countries and am fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, and French. Originally from Maine, I live in New York City.

POSITIONING THE CAMERA

  • Camera Position: Place the camera at eye level or slightly above to achieve a natural angle.
  • Lighting: Avoid backlighting and ensure good frontal lighting so your face is well-lit and visible. Consider using a ring light.
  • Environment: Minimize distraction, clutter, and echo (i.e. lots of glass is bad for podcasting).
  • Appropriate Distance: Make sure the camera is at an appropriate distance, close enough to see you clearly but not so close that your context is lost.
  • Pre-Call Testing: Conduct a pre-test to check the camera, lighting, and background.
