From Finance to Founder,
Nancy Twine’s Makers Mindset

Nancy Twine went from Goldman Sachs VP to founder of Briogeo, one of the world’s leading clean beauty haircare brands. In this episode of FOMO Sapiens, Nancy shares the deeply personal story that pushed her to leave Wall Street behind after the sudden loss of her mother, and how it inspired her to create a passion-driven company rooted in purpose, not profit alone.

She explains how Briogeo pioneered the “skinification of hair,” leveraged evolving marketing channels from Birchbox to YouTube influencers, and scaled through constant reinvention in the competitive beauty market. Nancy also opens up about leadership lessons—why control can be both a strength and a liability, and how trusting her intuition helped her stay ahead of cultural shifts.

Today, after a successful M&A exit, Nancy Twine is paying it forward through her Makers Mindset accelerator, podcast, and the $1M DreamMakers Founders Grant to support women entrepreneurs. If you’re interested in entrepreneurship, clean beauty, or turning purpose into a platform for impact, this conversation is packed with insights on building, scaling, and giving back.

Meet Nancy Twine:

Nancy Twine is a former VP at Goldman Sachs and the visionary behind Briogeo — the clean, high-performance hair care line that pioneered the “skinification” of hair movement. At the age of 29, she became the then-youngest Black woman to launch a product line at Sephora, and the brand has gone on to win dozens of awards for innovation, including one of the highest numbers of Allure Beauty Awards in the prestige hair care space.

Nancy is one of the few Black CEOs and businesswomen who have successfully launched & scaled a global business, raised over $20M of Private Equity Funding, and who has sold her company in a strategic M&A process – all before the age of 40. Today, Nancy expands her impact as an investor, advisor, and philanthropist, empowering others by providing tools and resources on NancyTwine.com, through her podcast, Makers Mindset, and with the Dream Makers Founder Grant, a $1 Million initiative supporting female entrepreneurs.
