This week on the #FOMOSapiens podcast I get the chance to sit down with Harley Rustad to discuss his new book Lost in the Valley of Death: A Story of Obsession and Danger in the Himalayas where he recounts the story of social media travel influencer Justin Alexander who joined the ranks of dozens of American tourists who have disappeared in India’s Valley of Death.
Taken with the contrasts he found between Justin the person and Justin the social media influencer, Harley was driven to uncover the story not only of Justin’s disappearance, but of Justin himself. Discussing the concepts of perception versus reality, my conversation with Harley really made me think about my own experiences and how I make my own travel meaningful.
This #FOMOnday, I wanted to dig a little deeper into the theme of meaningful travel: what you do, what you see, who you meet, and even what you eat can contribute to making an experience meaningful. There are countless ways to maximize your travel experiences, some you might not have even thought of before!
